Root Cause of EG4 Inverter Light Flickering Discovered! Here’s How to Fix It…

If you've recently purchased an EG4 6000EX or 6500EX inverter and are experiencing flickering lights, you're not alone. Our team has discovered the root cause of this issue and has released a firmware update to fix it. We encourage all affected customers to download this update from EG4's website as soon as possible.

Who is Affected by This Issue?

If you purchased an EG4 6000EX or 6500EX unit after November 1st and are experiencing light flickering when the PV is charging the battery, this update is for you.

So, What Happened?

An unauthorized minor component hardware change was made on the standard 6500EX and 6000EX rectifiers inside the all-in-one inverters. We use the same factory as other 6000/6500 units, but this issue came down to rectifier management. The firmware starved the rectifier by not allowing battery power to be prioritized on a board level. This caused the rectifier in PV charge and some grid circumstances to shift frequency slightly and make lights flicker.

Initially, when we started receiving returns because of this issue. We tried to get support; however, we saw this issue popping up with other high-volume OEMs. So, we dispatched our engineering team to Taiwan, and they took over the situation. This resulted in the firmware update that we're excited to share.

How do I Download the Firmware Update?

The firmware update is available for download on the EG4 website - HERE. We encourage all affected customers to download it as soon as possible. Going forward, we are implementing new tools and procedures to catch these issues more quickly, and we're adding more points to our batch quality test. Additionally, all units are being reflashed before shipment, and all units will come with an update cable packed in. If you need assistance with downloading the update, please contact our customer support team.
