Works well

Install was pretty straight forward, the included template helped a lot. Instructions were a little lacking, I watched a YouTube video of an install and it answered all my questions. ( I've never installed a mini split before this) I hooked up 1860 watts of solar to it and powered it up. (No AC power needed) after about 30 seconds, the unit came to life. I ran it on AC and then heat for a couple hours. Both seemed to work well. The unit is very quiet, both the inside and outside portions. After the install, it got cold here in Montana and snowed. Been running it on heat since the install. The unit has enough power at about 930 am to power up and start producing heat. It will produce 80 degree heat with as little as 300 watts with the fan on low. By about 11 am, the unit will be around 1000 watts and produce 130 degree heat with the fan on high or turbo. The mini split is installed in the middle of the upper level of my 4500 sf house. As I write this, it is right around freezing with snow periods. The mini split has kept my house warm all day with periods of sun and moderate cloud coverage. (Along with light snow) So far the unit has consumed 18kwhs of energy off of solar only. (it will run without being connected to AC power) All I can do is smile as the unit is running as it is not costing me anything in energy use. Looking forward to using the AC this summer. When I tested the output, I was getting 35 degree air from the unit in cool mode. My house is well insulated and this should be able to keep up on our warmest days. (Don't often see temps above 100 degrees, 80 is an average day) I have 6 310 watt panels at 37v connected in series to power the mini split. I may connect it to AC power at a later time, but we dont usually need AC at night around here as it cools off pretty quick once the sun goes down. I've been impressed enough that I went to buy another one for the rest of the house, but the price increased $400 since my first purchase. Only thing I wish was different- it would be nice to buy these and have the option of lineset length that you needed in 3 foot increments. My install only needed about 3 feet total.

EG4 12K Hybrid Mini Split

I purchase two of these to fit in my house that was built in 1975 with no central air. Initially, I wanted to purchase the 9K units since the rooms that I am using them in are about 150 sqf each. On EG4's website they were listed under their "Solar AC" category. Only after I purchased them I called to make sure that they are hybrid units, I was told that they are not. I had to return them and re-percase the 12K units. No harm done, except the hassle of the time spent on something that could have been avoided by simply not listing the 9K units under the solar AC category. It took about 3 weeks to get the units in and the delivery was very smooth.(keep in mind that they are most likely to comin freight) It is not your "Amazon" drop of and drive off delivery. You will have to be there to sign and they will be on a pallet so they will be curb side drop off. The installation was very easy. I used a downloaded manual from EG4' website since the one that came with the unit had some omitted details that I found useful in the downloaded version. I had never worked on any HVAC systems so I read the instructions three times and made sure that every instruction was followed to the letter. If you do that, you should be fine. NOTE: you will need an open-end adjustable torque wrench. This tool is not common in your local hardware stores. They are mostly used in the HVAC world so you will have to order it. You can find a good unit for $60-$100 online. Make sure that you factor the delivery time of the tool into your install. After the installations and the tests, the units are working perfectly. The recommended app (Solar Aircon) is no longer available for Android, so that is a bummer since I was looking forward to it and it is given as an option in the manual. There are other 3rd party apps but I am not sure which one works with EG4. I would love to see EG4 address the website issues and resolve the App problems as well. Also, include the need for a torque wrench in the manual since it is advertised as a DYI project. I am all about solar, so I am a very frequent visitor of Signature Solar. They are a great company to deal with and their prices are very, very competitive. I would highly recommend the solar AC units and everything signature solar does, because I believe in the renewable energy industry.

Great product, exceptional service

From the time I inquired about getting a custom freight quote for my order to the time I received my order, the customer service was exceptional. Responses were timely and everyone really went out of their way to help me. I had a small issue with delivery and they absolutely did everything they could to make it right. The mini split works great and was worth every penny.

My experience with solar hybrid mini split and other Mini split

I installed my solar hybrid 12k mini split unit myself, I have done no less then 10 Minis in my time. I bought some of the first soleus Minis some 20yrs ago. Those were R22 units and 220AC. This setup is light years ahead in minisplit/power technology, whereas I set my unit up to run completely free from my AC home power. I purchased 4 Aptos bifacial 370/480W panels while I was there. I was allowed to pick them up in my truck from Sulphur Springs, when they were first moving into their new building. I did a ground mount solar 4 panel setup and grounded them right there. I run the Mini split on solar only now for a year. I got 8 full hours of running time and up to 10 good hours during summer. I ran it full open at 65 degrees(cause it was free power). I left my bedroom door open and it aided in cooling the whole house as well, Electric bill went down $30 month as well. Now with the polar votec, I run it full blast at 80 degrees, the bedroom would get up to 75degrees and then bleed off the excessive heat in to the rest of the house. With full sun light I got a solid 7hrs of max heat when it was 30degrees outside. I like having the panels on the ground for maintenance, cleaning and adjusting the angle of the panels for better efficiently. I have intentions to install the 2 ton unit and some more panels, for I like free power.
